Cottage Farm Stables
If your riding skills are rusty or you want to move to a higher level of equestrianism, you can’t do better than book lessons with at Cottage Farm Stables, on the eastern outskirts of York, where Kathy Maclean has been running her riding stables since the mid-1970s - she has taught generations of people to ride!
Kathy brings her own young horses on to compete in dressage, show-jumping and eventing and enjoys encouraging riders of all levels to improve their abilities on one of the riding-school horses, or to bring their own horse across to develop its potential.
Either join a group lesson or book half-hour individual sessions: there's a range of mounts from ponies through steady cobs to horses suitable for competition riders.
The yard is accessible by public transport and riders who live locally often arrive by bicycle.
