Moorside Country B&B, Stape, North York Moors
Located on a farm surrounded by pasture fields within Cropton Forest, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, Moorside is an ideal and tranquil spot for a riding break.
Bridleways and tracks lead out in all directions to scenic spots such as the Hole of Horcum and Rosedale and pretty villages like Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Goathland - all just a few miles away. Owner Gill Richardson is a keen Endurance rider, and you can take advantage of her local knowledge and use the route maps and directions that she has prepared for her visitors - or bring your own map to explore even further afield.
There's accommodation for 4 people in twin rooms (beds can be zipped together on request to form queen-size), with an en-suite or private bathroom for each room. There are several good loose-boxes for your horses, or they can graze happily near Gill's own horses or sheep and rare breed cattle such as Belted Galloway.
Moorside hospitality includes an excellent breakfast of local sausages and other produce, and you can ask for a packed lunch if you'd like to take one with you - although many of the nearby villages are popular with visitors and have pubs and cafes for refreshments. There are also plenty of places within a short drive for your evening meals, or Gill (who has a background in catering) can prepare food for you if you order in advance.
As a change from riding, there's a variety of other things to do in the area such as visiting the fascinating Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole or taking a trip on the North York Moors Heritage Railway.
