Woodhill Cottages, Skidby
Your horses are based in a well-equipped yard (formerly a livery stables) with loose-boxes, several separate paddocks, a floodlit arena, and horse-walker. The yard is well located on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, with plenty of bridleways and green lanes for riding out. Owner Lynda Varey is an Endurance rider, and is happy to advise on where to ride or even accompany you as part of her training regime.
There is a choice of self-catering accommodation a few minutes' drive away, overlooking Skidby Lakes Golf Course: either a four-bedroom house, a one-bedroom cottage, or a Shepherd's Hut, all with en-suite bathrooms, wifi and dog-friendly enclosed gardens. A little further away (10 minutes' drive) is a 10-room guest-house in the village of Walkington, with en-suite bathrooms - perfect for larger parties! There's even a good pub on the same site serving home-cooked food and real ale. Lynda lives at the same site as the yard, so there is always someone there to keep an eye on what's going on.
The accommodation is conveniently located about 15 minutes' drive from the competition centre and agricultural college of Bishop Burton, while for non-riding times the charming Georgian town of Beverley is nearby, with its restaurants and range of independent shops. The city of Hull, where the huge aquarium The Deep and other attractions are situated, is also a short drive away. The village of Skidby itself boasts the best example of a windmill in the East Riding, with a cafe and a museum of rural life on the same site.
For more information about the accommodation see the Woodhill Cottages website, and for booking or more details of the equine facilities contact Lynda on 07960 755102.
